Welcome
to the Agility page.
So
you've decided to check out the fun and exciting world of dog
agility. We play agility under the rules and regulations of the
Agility Association of Canada (AAC). This competitive dog sport
is available to any breed or mix breed of dog that is 18 months
old and not aggressive. We time the dogs performance as they navigate
a course of obstacles at their handlers direction.
Dogs
perform on equipment like jumps, and to go through open
tunnels, closed tunnels, tires, weave in and out of the weave
poles, sail over a teeter, wall, and long dogwalk. A weekend event
is called a trial, and they can be held indoors or out in grass
fields.
Your dog can earn legs and titles by qualifying.
New
folks usually sign up for classes in their area. Training a dog
to be ready for competition takes 6-8 months on average, assuming
the dog and handler don't' have any setbacks.
Don't
be afraid to jump in and play in the world of agility, lots of
people just play for recreational fun and enjoyment for the dog.
Look at the the quality time you and your dog will be having together.
I'm certain you will become one more of the many 'agility addicts'
that are getting out and having fun with your dog.
